Habitat for Humanity Capital Region is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization with a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. But we know that we cannot achieve this vision alone. It takes all of us to build lasting and far-reaching change. It takes advocacy.
What is advocacy?
Habitat for Humanity defines advocacy as “changing policies and systems to eliminate barriers to adequate, affordable housing in order to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”
By using our affordable housing expertise and by giving supporters the tools that they need, we can influence public housing policies and systems. Through advocacy, we can exponentially increase access to decent, affordable housing.
How we advocate
As a local Habitat affiliate, we advocate for state and local policy changes that support the people we serve and broaden access to affordable housing. As an affiliate in a larger network of Habitat for Humanity organizations, we are able to form coalitions and have a larger state and national impact. Together, we can improve the laws, regulations, and systems to promote more equitable access to decent and affordable housing.
