This year, thanks to the incredible support of volunteers, donors, and partners, Habitat for Humanity Capital Region made a significant impact on families and in new communities. The fiscal year 2024 Annual Report is fueled by the concept, “by the community, for the community.”

Community. It’s a word that gets thrown around a lot. It is even one of our core values here at Habitat Capital Region. But what does it mean?

A few years ago, Nadine woke up to water cascading onto her bed through her ceiling fan due to a leaky roof. Despite investing in a significant roof repair, she felt it was not fixed correctly.
Her respite was short-lived. Shingles in the same troublesome spot loosened, revealing that her entire roof, down to the decking, required a complete overhaul. Memories of her similar predicament years prior flooded back…

There are not enough housing units, regardless of income. As stagnant wages fail to keep pace with the soaring costs of housing, the promise of affordable shelter slips further away.

On top of the shortage of homes, high mortgage interest rates are binding homeowners to their properties. This reduces the already limited options for those in need, driving up prices for everyone…
