We are ready to start construction at the future home of Martha and her children! To kick off this project, we are hosting a House Blessing ceremony on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024. We will bless the property, the work, the people involved, and the homebuyer family. Martha and her family will kick off signing porch supports and officially started rehabilitation at their new home!
Join Martha at the property for her house blessing. Everyone will have the chance to sign a porch support that will be used in the renovations!
This house will be a Habitat Capital Region rehab build project in partnership with the University of Michigan Health - Sparrow. It would not be possible without the hospital's support! Martha's will be the second of four homes in the Eastfield Neighborhood to be rehabbed and sold as affordable homeownership opportunities through Habitat Capital Region.

About Martha
Martha grew up in Sudan and fled to Ethiopia as a refugee before coming to the United States. She had to work hard for many years to establish her income and credit history in a new country.
Her rent fluctuates with her income, making it difficult to save to purchase a house. Thanks to the flexibility of the Habitat Capital Region Homeownership Program, Martha and her family are excited to finally "grow financially, and to plant roots in a community that we love," she says.
We are so happy to see her making her dreams come true as we start work on her future home together! Please join us at the House Blessing ceremony to celebrate the start of Martha's Habitat house on September 25th, 2024!
It's not too late to get involved! You can get hands on with the project by volunteering with us! Lots of volunteer help is needed. Most construction volunteer opportunities take place during the day, Tuesday-Friday. If that is something you are able to help with, consider applying to volunteer to get started!
