Carly and her family smile, ready for their full circle home.

Full Circle for Carly

Carly, a resilient single mother of five, faced challenges finding a suitable and affordable home for her family. That is until she experienced a full circle moment in the Habitat for Humanity Capital Region Homeownership Program.

Despite moving several times in search of better living conditions, Carly's children share cramped bedrooms with inadequate heating, while she shares a room with her three-year-old daughter.

Their current rental house is old, plagued by plumbing and ventilation issues, and it is in an unsafe neighborhood.

After working hard to rebuild her credit and career post-separation, Carly qualified for the Habitat Capital Region Homeownership Program. This opportunity will finally provide her family a stable and secure home, offering each child their own space to study, play, and grow.

Full Circle

She was surprised to receive a property offer near her childhood home! Carly said, “The funny thing is, where you guys are building this house – where I was born is literally around the corner. [My parents] came and walked the property with me.” It was a full circle moment.

Enthusiastic about partnering with Habitat Capital Region, Carly looks forward to purchasing her future five-bedroom home. Habitat's affordable mortgage is making a once-distant dream a reality.

The whole family can’t wait to personalize the space without restrictions, a luxury they can’t enjoy while renting. Carly is excited to create a permanent home for her family where they can feel comfortable, safe, and truly at home.

We're building!

Thinking about the future, Carly says, “Nobody can tell me what to do with it or take it away. With a rental, you never really know. [What excites me the most] is to have that home base. It’ll be something that’s consistent.”

Carly’s family home broke ground in March 2024. Plus, Carly’s next door neighbor will be a Habitat homeowner too! Habitat Capital Region will be building on the lot next door in the coming year.

This project would not be possible without support form the Ingham County Housing Trust Fund and our wonderful corporate partners.
