Rock the Block Impact
A local family is one step closer to their dream of homeownership, and another family now has safe access to their home. This is thanks to the efforts of 33 local volunteers who donated their time and energy during Habitat for Humanity Capital Region’s Rock the Block, July 24-26, 2023.
During Rock the Block, volunteers take action to revitalize neighborhoods. This year, the neighborhood surrounding Brittni's future Habitat home was the focus. In just 3 days, the team of 33 volunteer put 183 hours into...
- Assisting residents declutter their homes,
- Constructing the shed of Brittni's future Habitat home, and
- Removing and rebuilding a front porch and step for Peggy to safely enter and exit her home.
By completing revitalization projects, Habitat Capital Region volunteers help promote vibrant, well-maintained neighborhoods that lead to healthy, empowered families and increased property values.
Future Habitat Homeowner
Brittni eagerly visited the construction site throughout Rock the Block thanking the volunteers for their hard work and support. Plus, she showed her 1-month-old around their future home for the first time!
Now, Brittni and her children - Paris, Aubree, Rozlynn, and Lauren - are one step closer to becoming first time homeowners. Upon completion of construction, Brittni will purchase her Habitat home with an affordable mortgage this fall.
Safe Access
Peggy's new front porch and steps now provide safe entry and exit from her home. The previous stairs had several years of wear and weathering, making it unstable. Now, she can enjoy the neighborhood from her front porch and not have to worry about its integrity.
Community Support
Habitat Capital Region's services are only possible by overwhelming community support in the form of financial contributions and volunteer labor. Thank you to this year’s Rock the Block partners and participants: AF Group, Consumers Energy, Lansing Board of Water & Light, MSU Federal Credit Union, and UAW Local 652.
Consumers Energy Helping Neighbors
Habitat Capital Region partnered with Consumers Energy to provide home energy assessments for low- to moderate-income families in the neighborhood.

Get Involved!
You can get hands on community building projects by volunteering with us! Lots of volunteer help is needed. Most construction volunteer opportunities take place during the day, Monday-Friday. If that is something you are able to help with, consider applying to volunteer to get started!
