Ron Fuller is celebrating his 10-year work anniversary with Habitat Capital Region in April 2023! Ron currently works at the Habitat ReStore in Williamston. Over the last decade, he has contributed to multiple ReStore locations, our volunteer program, and our construction department.
Ron worked in construction after high school for many years before leaving the physically demanding job to give his body a rest. When a new Habitat ReStore was opening in Haslet, his wife insisted that the job was a perfect fit for him and he needed to apply.
The job really is a perfect fit. Ron is a people person and loves his work at the Habitat ReStore. They do it all there and he loves being able to work with customers, donors, and the longtime volunteers at the ReStore.
Ron has always had a passion for history, antiques, and restoring old pieces. He bought and sold his first true antique when he was just 8 years old. He bought a 1941 upright round top Philco radio for $20 with his lawn mowing money. It had a damaged cord and a couple of tubes that he replaced and sold it at the Putnam antique store in Williamston. “So if you wonder if I have a background in doing this stuff... yeah kinda,” he said, laughing.
Switching it Up
A few years after Ron became a key part of our ReStores, the organization needed help leading volunteers on our construction sites.
Ron embarked on what he calls his “last hurrah” in construction with Habitat. He never intended to get back into the construction field, but he dove in to fill the need and to work directly with volunteers and homeowner partners. He relates deeply to the families and individuals that Habitat works with. Ron was born and raised in downtown Lansing and is so proud of the scale of impact that Habitat Capital Region has grown to have. “I absolutely love being a part of that,” he said.
Back to the ReStore!
After his last hurrah, Ron retired from construction again and went back to the ReStore where he gets to wear many hats and see all sorts of unique people and objects move through. You can still find him some days leading volunteers during large Habitat Capital Region volunteer events.
Next time you see Ron at the ReStore or at a build event, tell him congratulations and thank you.
