It is the season of giving, and who best to demonstrate the spirit of generosity this Christmas season than Habitat ReStore volunteer, Bettie Menchik.
Bettie has been volunteering every week at the ReStore in Williamston for over a year. This year, she has given nearly 100 hours to help the ReStore raise critical funds supporting the mission of Habitat for Humanity Capital Region.
When a large donation of new children’s backpacks was donated to the store, Bettie saw an opportunity to do something amazing. She bought 340 backpacks to donate to the Dr. Eva L. Evans Welcome Center, which helps refugees, English language learners, and other newcomers to the Lansing School District. The backpacks will be given to students who need them across the Lansing School District.
Feeling something like Santa Clause, our ReStore truck drivers, Josh and James, delivered the assortment of space theme, flower print, camo, and other fun backpacks to the Dr. Eva L. Evans Welcome Center (formerly Elmhurst Elementary School) on Bettie’s behalf.
Bettie’s generosity helps Habitat Capital Region build and repair homes for local people, as well as this other wonderful organization helping young people feel more at home in their new Lansing community.
